Our Netflix Favourites
What we’re bingeing at the moment!
The weather has been cold and miserable here at St Frock so we decided to ask what you guys are bingeing on Netflix at the moment. Get the wine and popcorn ready because here are some of our favourites!
Crazy Rich Asians
This movie stars an incredible all-Asian cast, including Constance Wu, Henry Golding, Michelle Yeoh, Gemma Chan, Awkwafina, Ken Jeong and Jimmy O and follows a professor’s whirlwind trip to Singapore to meet her boyfriend’s crazy rich family. Crazy Rich Asians is the 21st century rom-com we all adore!
This feel-good comedy follows a group of six women who travel to Napa Valley to celebrate one of their 50th birthdays. Wine Country explores middle age and friendships and features some of the funniest women in the business, including Amy Poehler, Maya Rudolph, Tina Fey and Rachel Dratch.
Always Be My Maybe
This Netflix original is a charming and hilarious romantic comedy. Featuring Ali Wong and Randall Park, the story follows childhood sweethearts who reconnect 15 years after falling out. Also, if you haven’t seen Ali Wong’s stand up comedy Netflix specials, you should. She is HILARIOUS.
This movie is loud, at times unwatchably gross and yet, absolutely hysterical. The chemistry and harmony between the amazing Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, Jada Pinkett Smith and Tiffany Haddish is a genuine celebration of womanhood and friendships.
Big Little Lies Season 2
Ok, so this one is not technically on Netflix, but Big Little Lies deserves a special mention. The highly anticipated second season features acclaimed actress Meryl Streep, along with the already star-studded cast of Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Zoë Kravitz, Shailene Woodley, and Laura Dern. It’s on HBO, so if you have Foxtel, it’s definitely worth a watch!
Dead to Me
The very talented Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini become unlikely friends after meeting at a support group. Dead to Me is a kooky, dark comedy/thriller which explores the weirdly funny sides of grief, loss and forgiveness.
She’s Gotta Have It Season 2
Spike Lee can do no wrong. The second season of She’s Gotta Have It follows Brooklyn-based artist Nola Darling (played by the insanely beautiful DeWanda Wise) as she struggles to stay true to herself and her dreams. This show is an empowering, funny and thought-provoking breath of fresh air.
If you haven’t seen this documentary yet, you need to leave wherever you are, go home and put it on RIGHT NOW. This half documentary/half film follows Beyonce’s 2018 Coachella performance and is written, directed and executive produced by the Queen Bee herself. Already one of the all-time greatest concert docs, these 137 minutes will leave you feeling inspired and ready to take on anything.
